Diggy Bongz has been in the music entertainment industry for over 20 years. His love for music goes back to his youth as the last born in a family of 5 children in New Brighton Port Elizabeth South Africa. He was fortunate to have siblings and parents who all had different tastes in music ranging from Rock, Classical, R&B, Jazz, Reggae and Choral. He says that he is the one who introduced everybody else in the family to Pop, Hip-Hop and House. As a kid he was not allowed to touch the record player at his home and because of the general love of music in the household, there was a huge collection of vinyls. Even though they had many records at his home, he was not allowed to touch them without adult supervision, "you will scratch them", they would say to him. This created a serious yearning for him to have his own equipment and music collection. The dream became a reality when one of his uncles passed away leaving him in his Will, enough money for him to buy two Technics SL 1200 Turntables, a mixer and a kickstart of his own vinyl collection. The year was 1995 and thanx to his late uncle, "DJ Diggy Bongz" was born that year. This happened while Diggy Bongz was studying towards an Organisational Psychology degree at the University of Cape Town (UCT).
While at UCT Diggy Bongz also started Radio presenting at UCT Radio, he also got himself an agent and started doing voice over work as well as Dj'ing at private parties and Nightclubs. This allowed him to not only be financially independent, but it also allowed him to grow his music collection to a point where he became the number 1 "go-to" black DJ on Campus, doing all kinds of gigs for the Students as well as the various Student organisations, on and off Campus. After graduating in 1997, Diggy Bongz teamed up with the late DJ Slender, Terry Pinana and his little brother the late DJ Goggi Pinanana. Together they formed a DJ'ing and music production unit which led to formation of the SAMA nominated Kwaaito group Dantai. In Dantai Diggy Bongz was a rapper as well as one of the co-music producers and with the group Diggy Bongz got the opportunity to perform all over South Africa, Lesotho as well as London UK. The group recorded two albums (only one was released) and disbanded in 2001.
In 2002 Diggy Bongz became a Nightclub co-owner with a French Dj who had re-located to Cape Town. Club Sheikh in Long Street, currently Club 169, became Diggy's base and there he hosted a number of South Afrian Djs and drank a lot of booze. He says about the business, " that place was more of a personal bar and hangout spot, we were just having fun and the business side of it was secondary to us, it's no surprise that the business only lasted two years and then went bust". As a radio presenter, Diggy Bongz has worked at Good Hope FM, Feel Good FM as well as Heart FM and as a music producer he has worked with artists such as Chaad Saaiman, KB, Karin Kortjie, Can Skylark, Coda, Oryan Winter and many others.
